Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you work with students outside of Rhode Island?

Absolutely! We work with students across New England and nationwide via Google Meet.

  • What does a college admissions consultant do?

We help students and families navigate every step of the college admissions process — from building a college list, planning college visits, academic planning, and extracurricular guidance to essays, applications, and final decisions. Our goal is to make the process less stressful and more strategic.

  • When should my child start college planning?

It’s never too early to begin! We usually start working with students in 9th grade to help them develop strong academic habits and explore their interests, hobbies, and extracurricular activities. By 11th grade, we shift focus to standardized testing, essay planning, and refining college lists to prepare for the application process in the summer before 12th grade.

  • Do we need a private college advisor if our student has a school counselor?

While school counselors provide valuable support, they often manage hundreds of students alongside a wide range of responsibilities. This can make it difficult to give each student the personalized guidance needed in today’s competitive college admissions process.

Unlike a typical school-day meeting where a counselor meets briefly with a student and the student relays information to their family, we provide comprehensive family college planning. This approach ensures that both students and parents are actively involved, informed, and supported throughout every step of the process — bridging the gap that often exists outside of the school environment.

  • What makes Academic Admissions Advisors different?

Our personalized approach and our experience on both sides of the desk. We intentionally limit the number of students we work with so we can truly get to know each family and provide one-on-one attention, strategy, and accountability from start to finish.

Our team’s experience on both sides of the admissions process — as former admissions professionals and college counselors gives us a unique perspective. We understand exactly what colleges are looking for, how applications are reviewed, and how to help students present their authentic strengths in a way that stands out.

This insider insight, combined with a supportive, individualized approach, helps families feel confident and informed at every stage of the journey.

  • What’s the difference between our packages?

The main difference between our packages is the amount of time and level of support each family receives.

All packages include personalized college advising, but they vary in how often we meet and how deeply we assist with each part of the process.

  • What is included in our packages?

Here’s a breakdown of our packages, starting at $2549.

🕓 Time & Guidance: Number of hours available for ongoing support, academic and extracurricular planning, college research, application strategy, and personalized coaching throughout the admissions process.

💻 Virtual Meetings: Flexibility for online sessions and check-ins throughout the process.

📄 Essays & Resume: Individualized feedback and coaching for essays, personal statements, and activity résumés.
